American Chemistry Council (ACC) Sponsor.

Plastic Automotive Applications.
ACC introduced the sort of automotive plastics which is made plastic cars in the future. I'm going to participate this sponsor project in this 2014 fall semester. Plastic Automotive ApplicationsPlastics is potential materials for a lot of beneficial reasons. Especially, safety and lightweight of cars are key factor of them.
Our project theme is explained following contests.
o Teams will consist of one interior and one exterior Senior CCS Automotive Design Student.
o Students own a ride share/autonomous transportation company in the year 2028.
o Students must design their fleet to differentiate their company in the marketplace.
o Students must highlight what makes their fleet design better than competitors.
o
The designs will portray benefits of plastics and polymer composites
and will be displayed on social media platforms to demonstrate these benefits.
The key factor of Automotive Plastics.
SafetyIn automotive design, plastics have contributed to a multitude of innovations in safety, performance and fuel efficiency. Made from durable strands of polyester fiber, seat belts alone have reportedly helped to save 11,000 lives each year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Airbags, commonly made from high-strength nylon fabric, can reduce the risk of dying in a direct, frontal car crash by about 30 percent, according to NHTSA statistics. And child safety seats made possible by numerous advancements in polymer science help to protect our kids at every turn.
LightweightingAnother priority in automotive design is weight reduction, a key driver in boosting fuel efficiency, reducing emissions and lowering costs for motorists. Many plastic components can weigh 50 percent less than similar components made from other materials. That’s one reason why today’s average light vehicle contains 332 pounds of plastics and composites, 8.3 percent by weight.
